Practical And Inspiring Tips To Effective Web Design- How To Build A Pleasant-Looking Page
Every day thousands of web pages are coming up on the internet but not all are pleasant to navigate through. While only a few can boast of ease of use, others are downright a pain to browse through. A website with a shoddy design is such a turn off that however good your product or content may be, people may just shut it off. Give people what they are looking for when they arrive at a website; here are some inspiring tips to effective web design.
The content on the website should be engaging enough for the visitors to stay on. It is not important to make every visitor do that. But, the website will definitely have a target audience and these people should feel enthusiastic about reading your content. A good looking page may hold people’s attention but only till they realize that the content is worthless. To stop that from happening, provide content with value. Too many misspellings are also annoying to the readers.
If you are planning to use your website to display ads for some extra cash, by all means do so. However, it must be in addition to the content your website is really about. Too many ads with just a perfunctory attempt at providing editorial content will not fool anybody.
Avoid filling up your web page with distracting links. Scrolling text can be used only if you want to divert the reader’s attention to it. Avoid having voice overs for your site as they will also distract the visitor from reading what’s on the site. Too much of such distractions and the reader will feel like moving away to some page ‘quieter’. Avoid pop up windows at all costs. Nobody is ever interested in them and have never been known to welcome them. The bottom line is that pop ups are irritating and will not win you any fans.
Pages that take ages to load find users already losing interest in them. Unless there is a legitimate reason for a page to load slowly, for example a Harry Potter site the day before a release, people will rather shut it down and find another page than wait it out. Web design is that important. Sites with glaring images in the background are also unpleasant to the eye.
Too many links in a page are also a big turn off. Since links are usually highlighted for the user’s convenience, a page stuffed with links will resemble a book with highlighter marks all over the pages. To have an enter link to view your site is a highly pompous and pointless piece of design. Obviously the user wants to ‘enter’ your site and that’s why they are there in the first place.
It is not enough to have useful information on the site. They should also be organized well so that anybody can find what they are looking for easily. The text on the site should be pleasing to the eye. That can be achieved by using correct font, color, background color. Put a Home button on all your pages so that users can start over if they want to.
Remember the basics of web design. Decrease the amount of clicking and scrolling a person will have to do on your site and they will thank you for it by coming back again and again.
